How to choose a kitchen faucet

Start with your everyday tasks

Think about what you wash most often: tall pots, produce, trays or the sink itself. A pull-out or pull-down head can help reach cookware and corners, but check the model’s stated reach and the space needed below the sink for its hose.

Compare movement and water modes

A fixed spout, swivel spout and movable spray head offer different kinds of reach. Look at the functions listed for each product rather than assuming that similar-looking models work the same way. An aerated stream and a spray serve different rinsing tasks; additional modes are useful only if you will use them.

Match the faucet to the sink

Check spout height and reach together. The outlet should sit over a useful part of the bowl, with enough room for the items you wash. A higher spout is not automatically a better choice: sink depth, outlet position and water flow can all affect splashing.

Check the space around and below it

Allow room for the handle to move without hitting a wall. Check nearby windows, shelves and cabinets. Under the sink, identify pipes, bins or other fittings that could obstruct a pull-out hose or return weight.

Confirm the installation before buying

Match the mounting type, hole count, hole diameter and mounting thickness to the product specifications. Confirm supply connections and hot/cold requirements. If a specification is missing, ask rather than borrowing a measurement from another product.
